Is the gold real, and how is it applied?
The ornament is built up in gesso relief and finished with gold-toned foil over the raised work, which is the traditional Thanjavur method — it is what makes the surface change as you move past it. The foil is gold-toned, not solid gold; we do not sell it as a precious metal, and the value of the piece is the painting.

How long will my painting take?
3–5 days to paint, then framing, then shipping from India. Shipping time depends on your country and customs clearance.

Will my painting look exactly like the photograph?
No, and it is not meant to. Hand-painted to order. Each piece is individually painted by our Thanjavur artists, so the artwork you receive may not be 100% identical to the image shown. Slight variation in detail, shade and foil work is the nature of handmade art — and it means your piece is one of a kind.

Can I order a subject that is not on the site?
Yes. Use the commission inquiry form and Kavitha will come back with a price and a timeline.

Which frame should I pick?
All 4 fit every painting and you can switch between them on the product page to see the piece in each. Carved Teak is included in the price.

Do you ship to my country?
We ship worldwide. Choose your country at checkout to see the shipping cost, which is computed from the framed weight of your piece.

Who pays import duty?
We ship from Tamil Nadu, India. Any import duty or tax charged by your country is payable by you, not by us.

Can I cancel?
Free before work begins. Once your order is with the painter it cannot be canceled — see the Cancellation Policy.

How do I look after it?
Hang it out of direct sunlight and away from damp. Dust the surface with a dry, soft cloth. Never use water or cleaning fluid on the foil.
