How a Commission Works

You are buying something that does not exist yet. Here is exactly what happens.

1. You choose a design and a frame.
All 4 frames fit every painting. The price you see is the painting plus the frame you picked; Carved Teak is included, the others add $30 to $45.

2. You place the order and pay.
That is the instruction to begin. Shipping is calculated at checkout from the framed weight of your piece, because a framed 36×45 painting weighs about 17kg and a 12×15 about 3kg; crating and insurance are included in that figure.

3. We commission a painter.
Your order is assigned to one of our Thanjavur painters by name, and you are emailed. This is the point after which the order can no longer be canceled — see the Cancellation Policy.

4. The piece is painted, in 3–5 days.
Board preparation, then color, then the gesso relief, then the foil. You are emailed when it is finished.

5. It is framed, then shipped.
You are emailed when it is framed and again when it ships, with tracking. Delivery time after that depends on your country and its customs.

Hand-painted to order. Each piece is individually painted by our Thanjavur artists, so the artwork you receive may not be 100% identical to the image shown. Slight variation in detail, shade and foil work is the nature of handmade art — and it means your piece is one of a kind.
